With his movie coming up for release in the coming days, it wouldn’t be surprising for us to see a lot more of Aamir Khan now. This however, was not the reason why the handsome actor dropped by at the launch of a store by the French fashion giant Ted Lapidus last night at Bandra.

While his taste in clothes could be one reason, it was actually a personal invite by the store’s brand director Basab Paul that made him attend the do. For restaurateur Basab - he owns Vie Lounge and Deck - is in fact, Aamir’s former brother-in-law; he’s married to Anu Datta, the actor’s ex-wife Reena Datta’s sister.

This was also the reason why the usually reclusive Reena stepped out to wish Basab and Anu, even though both Reena and Aamir came in separately.

“Aamir and Reena may have split but they don’t have any bitterness in their relationship. Aamir is even cordial with Reena’s family and this is why he turned up at the do,” says a source, who didn’t wish to be named.

What is also interesting is that this is the first time, Aamir has made a public appearance at Basab Paul’s do post his divorce with Reena.

Aamir didn’t come at the earlier dos such as Vie’s anniversary party last December that was also hosted by Basab. But this time around, when Basab messaged Aamir and invited him to the launch, Aamir readily accepted.

“This is a way of stating that Aamir and Reena still support each other and their families; it’s an olive branch that was extended to the actor as this is one of the first formal functions where the actor came in to support his former in-laws,” states this source, adding that in any case, Basab’s three children and Aamir’s two kids, being cousins, are quite close to each other.

Reena, on her part, has also been equally encouraging; she was even a signatory to the PIL that reasoned why Faisal should stay with Aamir.
