Darkness which overtook Eden Gardens, when Sharukh Khan’s Knight Riders took on the Deccan Chargers, is being probed. An upset West Bengal Sports Minister Subhas Chakraborty felt that the image of Eden has been tarnished.
DARKNESS IN Eden Gardens, which marred the Indian Premier League cricket match between Sharukh Khan’s men in black and Deccan Chargers, is being probed. The appalling mismanagement is being probed by a three-member committee set up by West Bengal’s Sports Minister, Subhas Chakraborty who is extremely angry. The Public Works Department (PWD) which maintains the lush green Eden Gardens is not taking any responsibility because an agency appointed the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) was contracted to maintain the flood lights.
The minister was said to have gone on the warpath at the embarrassing situation that came about and pulled up both CAB officials as well as IPL, the organisers. What has upset the ebullient minister is that the image of Eden Gardens, one of the largest and the best cricket grounds in the world, has been tarnished. The state government was not involved in the proceedings and that has cheesed off the minister. The state’s PWD minister Kshiti Goswami echoed his feelings.
A report submitted by the PWD engineer in-charge of the Eden Gardens on the black out said that a high tension line linked to the towering floodlights had tripped. This led to lamps taking time to come back to life for the game to resume.
